John Reynolds served three years during the Civil War. He enlisted on the 26th of November 1861 in the Third Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. The Regiment was organized at Monroeville, Huron County, Ohio, from September 4, 1861 to December 11, 1861.
John was assigned to Company K. After a short period of time he was promoted to Corporal. He was captured at the battle of Lexington, Kentucky on October 11, 1862. For some  reason he was immediately paroled by the Rebels. John was discharged at Nashville, Tennessee on February 16, 1864, on a Surgeon's Certificate of Disability.
